By now everyone has probably heard the news on the Google, YouTube deal. Two weeks ago, Mark Cuban said anybody who would buy YouTube for $1.6 million is a moron. Yesterday on his blog, he said they are crazy for going ahead with this, and they are heading for the ultimate litigious nightmare.
But on the other hand…
Local search is afire, and the leaders are familiar names: Yahoo and Google. Unlike regular search where Google clearly dominates, the playing field for local search is evenly split between the two search giants with a share of about 30 percent each. Microsoft is third at 12 percent. Both Google Local and Yahoo Local use a map-based page. Indicate your search location and enter a search term such as “pizza.” Your map will populate with the names and locations of pizza restaurants in the vicinity.
You know those ads in the back of magazines offering untold riches to work from home? Well I’m going to tell you right now to stop wasting your time with that and get yourself a Google AdSense account immediately. John Chow has compiled a list of the top AdSense earners that Google sends ridiculously, enormous checks to on a monthly basis. Amazingly the top earner, the guy cashing $300,000 checks every month, operates his dating site Plenty of Fish with only one employee, his girlfriend.
Online advertising revenues for the first half of 2006 were 37 percent ahead of 2005 figures according to this press release from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). Total online ad revenues for the first six months of this year reached nearly $8 billion. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) conducted the research.
If there are two things I like to keep on top of, it’s rumors about Google and rumors about Apple. Now that they’ve cozied up with each other, it looks like keeping track will get a bit easier as today there are two rumors involving them. It sure didn’t take long for the two to start working together though I expected the hyper Apple rumor community to have had a good dozen Google/Apple rumors spreading within days of the Google CEO joining the Apple board.
