Spreading The Word

by

Investors.com, the online version of the Investor’s Business Daily newspaper, has published an article that says advertisers are placing more of their budgets with podcasts.  To me, the good news here is not the fact that ad spend with podcasting is on the rise (we’ve known about that for some time now) but that a more established and respected institution like the IBD is telling the story.

IBD editors also have their own podcast.  You can find it here.  See ... this is part of how the podcasting game works.  You find a podcast you like and spread the word.

New Survey: Internet Most Influencial On Buying Decisions and Consumer Behavior

by

Results of a large digital influence study in Europe shows the Internet has twice the influence of television and eight times the influence of print on consumer behavior. The study by Fleishman-Hillard and Harris Interactive surveyed nearly 5000 people in the U.K., Germany and France.

From the Harris news release:

“‘The research shows that the internet stands out as the most important communications medium in the lives of European consumers today’, said Dave Senay, president and chief executive officer of Fleishman-Hillard . “But there’s a mismatch between the growing impact of the digital channel and the proportion of marketing and advertising resources organizations allocate to it, relative to other media. by

At the recent Gartner Emerging Trends and Technologies Roadshow in Melbourne, Gartner identified the Top Ten Disruptive Technologies for 2008 to 2012. IDC says Internet advertising will double in the next five years and become the second biggest advertising medium eclipsed only by direct marketing. That forecast would place Internet advertising ahead of newspaper and television in total ad revenues.

Distracting News: .car

by

There is Internet access at work, and Internet access at home. And thanks to WiFi, it seems like the Web is now available in an ever-increasing list of locations. However, there is one place many people spend a great deal of time where Web access is severely limited: a person’s vehicle. This is a big deal because according to an Arbitron study a few years ago, the average American spends 14 percent of waking hours in a car (see pdf of Arbitron study here).

Now a company called ATX (news release) would like to change all that by bringing Web access to your car’s dashboard. They are even proposing a new top-level domain (.car) to facilitate that process. Yikes, I see one more huge distraction looming for already distracted drivers.
