Ten Years of Thinking In One Issue

by

There is a good article in the latest issue of strategy+business magazine/enews. There is a discussion of conceptual breakthroughs in business going back ten years to 1995. Many of you will recognize these concepts, but there was a voting process and it is interesting to see which breakthroughs were the most popular from the magazine’s readers (reader demographics here).

Here’s the ranking from the story:

1) Execution
2) The Learning Organization
3) Corporate Values
4) Customer Relationship Management
5) Disruptive Technology
6) Leadership Development
7) Organizational DNA
8) Strategy-based Transformation
9) Complexity
10) Lean Thinking

Keep in mind some of these may look like just plain common sense in the list above, but the article goes into detail in each section to explain how thinking has changed in some of these areas, and how some of those changes are vital to doing business in the present marketplace environment.

In addition, some of these concepts are viewed from the position of hindsight with numerous books and many articles making what was once a new concept, now familiar.
