The Benefits of Blogging – Without Blogging

by

Many organizations have started blogging – and others are considering it. When executed correctly, blogging is a sizable commitment that requires a strong strategy and purpose, devoted bloggers and the supporting technology.

But do you need to blog to realize the benefits of blogging?

Over at SearchEngineWatch, Bill Hartzer suggests organizations can borrow the techniques of successful bloggers – and achieve similar results – without actually starting a blog.

A few of his suggestions:

  • Online Networking: Comment on other blogs, provide guest posts or link to prominent blogs from your business partners or within your industry.
  • Blogger Outreach: Form relationships with bloggers in your field, and pitch them on newsworthy ideas.
  • Blog Platforms: Consider building your main web site on a blogging platform such as WordPress or TypePad, even if you don’t blog. These platforms can easily be used to maintain your entire site, and you’d have the option to easily add a blog later if your organization decides to start one.
  • Blog Features: Add RSS to your company news releases to keep bloggers and others posted on the latest developments.

The message is clear: Even if you don’t blog, make it easy for bloggers to find you and begin using the new tools. If your organization isn’t ready for an intensive blogging initiative, these tips may provide value and spark other new media ideas.
