What’s In The Recipe For Blog Success? Sugar.

by

imageAs blogging matures as a communications medium, so does the scope of success. While many successful bloggers still concentrate on the original blog that earned them a new-found audience, others are building successful blog networks that allow them to deliver popular content to many diverse audiences. A classic example of this is Sugar Publishing, a blog publishing company started by Lisa and Brian Sugar. Their blogs include PopSugar, BuzzSugar, FitSugar, FabSugar, YumSugar, GeekSugar, GiggleSugar, TeamSugar and DearSugar. This couple is doing something right, because they started with their initial blog, PopSugar, only a couple of years ago and it already sounds like they have millions of readers and advertisers standing in line.

They should have another blog called PR-Sugar because they have certainly learned how to attract some good buzz. Forbes had an article on them a few days ago, USA quoted one of their blog editors in an article a few weeks ago, and they were also featured on Business 2.0 and TechCrunch.

It’s another example of how the Live Web has evaporated the barriers to entry in the publishing industry: no printing presses to buy, no large facility to house people and equipment, no inventory, and no expensive overhead. With the new level playing field the Web provides, you can bet you’ll see many more of these types of stories in the future.
