Apple and Google, Sitting in a Tree…What’s Bill to Think?
byTwo days after Google unveiled its first ‘official’ salvo in the online office suite war, a bigger bomb may have been dropped from Cupertino when Apple announced on Tuesday that Google CEO Eric Schmidt had been elected to the Apple board. With both Apple and Google facing upcoming battles with Microsoft — Microsoft plans to take on the iPod with its Zune player later this year — working closer together could mean a more coordinated two-front assault focused on Redmond.
While the announcement of the Google suite most likely didn’t phase Microsoft — it was no secret Google was up to something, plus the suite is less than impressive at this point — seeing two of your bigger competitors get closer to each other couldn’t have gone over too well. I can just imagine how worked up and sweaty Steve Ballmer might have become when he heard the news.
