Blogging Continues Ballistic
byA new State of the Blogosphere report from David Sifry shows the number of blogs increasing at a dizzying pace. According to the report, Technorati—the blog search engine—is now tracking 35.3 million blogs. In a previous State of the Blogosphere report released just two months ago, Technorati was tracking 27.2 million blogs. Over eight million blogs have been added in the last two months! It also means, over the past 60 days, an average of more than 5500 new blogs have been created each hour.
People and companies are not only starting blogs, but they are continuing them also. Over 19 million bloggers (55 percent) are still posting three months after beginning their blogs. There are 1.2 million new blog posts each day. That is why consumer generated media and citizen journalism have become such important factors in the total amount of communication that takes place via the Internet.
It is also why traditional media such as Time Inc., the New York Times and others are developing aggressive blogging plans. The strategy is familiar: if you can’t beat them, join them.
