Celebrate National Punctuation Day
byAlert the grammar geeks: Today (Monday) is National Punctuation Day. We celebrate the “lowly comma, correctly used quotes and other proper uses of periods, semicolons and the ever-mysterious ellipsis.”
See the official site for a pile of punctuation resources and fun:
- Tips on how to correctly use apostrophes, dashes, hyphens and more
- Ideas to celebrate National Punctuation Day (my favorite: “Take a leisurely stroll, paying close attention to store signs with incorrectly punctuated words. Stop in those stores to correct the owners. If the owners are not there, leave notes.”)
- A punctuation rap every child should know
- Punctuation products including t-shirts, mugs and posters
- Visitor-submitted photos illustrating bad punctuation
- Links to style books and online tools
