Gmaps Pedometer: Measure Your Workout Route

by

The Gmaps Pedometer is a nifty extension of Google Maps that allows you to measure the distance of your favorite hiking, running, biking or walking route.

It’s quite simple: you zoom in to your neighborhood or location and start double-clicking your route. It calculates the total distance and places markers at each mile. You can also turn on a calorie counter and an elevation grid. Once you finish plotting your route, you can print or save it. It takes a little patience to find your neighborhood and starting point, but from there it’s pretty slick.

The developer describes it as a “little hack that uses Google’s superb mapping application.” He developed it to measure his running distances while training for a marathon. It sure beats carrying a GPS device or pedometer when you’re exercising. Check it out.
