JavaFX Poised To Take On The Rich Internet Application Heavy Weights
byJavaFX, a new platform and scripting language that can create rich GUIs using Java’s Swing, has created a stir in the development world lately, with its announcement at JavaOne earlier this year and the subsequent preview release of the SDK. In the next month or two, we should see the first main release of the product, which is geared toward desktop uses. JavaFX Mobile and JavaFX TV are slated to be released in spring and summer of 2009, respectively.
So what is it about JavaFX that has the java world buzzing?
Well for starters, it looks like it will reinstall Java as a serious contender in the Rich Internet Application (RIA) arena. JavaFX is meant to go head to head with Adobe’s Flash and Silverlight. Take a look at http://www.javafx.com and you will see a fast, responsive, appealing web page, which is filled with interactive elements.
But the really cool part is that JavaFX allows developers to easily create applications that run across multiple types of screens – desktop browsers, smart phones, TV, etc… The future of RIA is no longer tied to the browser.
