Move To Online Picks Up Momentum

by

A new report from Blackfriars Communication (via MarketingVOX) shows many marketers continuing to rapidly increase the proportion of their budget spent online. According to Carl Howe, who is a principal at Blackfriars, “Online spending of all types grew to more than a quarter of marketing budgets. We could see even more growth online if executives start spending the larger budgets they have planned for the second quarter.”

A chart that accompanies the report shows online advertising almost pulling even with offline advertising for Q2 of 2006. All online marketing activities now consume 26 percent of company marketing budgets.

The report also shows extremely robust growth for marketing in the U.S. with total planned marketing spending up 46 percent over the same quarter in 2005.

The growth in activity isn’t just in the more mainstream online marketing tools such as search engine marketing and online advertising. Steve Rubel at Micro Persuasion points out a Forrester Research report that shows half of all marketers now experimenting with emerging channels online such as blogs, RSS feeds and mobile marketing.
