National Punctuation Day: How Will You Celebrate?
byAlert your favorite proofreaders, writers, editors and other grammar geeks: today is their day. National Punctuation Day has returned for its (not “it’s”) fifth year.
If you think an ellipsis occurs when the moon moves in front of the sun, or if you heard your uncle was hospitalized for a semicolon procedure, you may want to visit the official site.
The site notes several ways to celebrate:
- Cook the official meatloaf in the shape of your favorite punctuation mark (here’s the recipe PDF).
- Find a sign with poor punctuation.
- Purchase a new copy of your favorite style guide.
- Proofread your local newspaper.
If you simply want to improve your skills, visit the site for a refresher on various punctuation marks. For ongoing learning, consider the Grammar Girl podcast or check out the top 10 blogs for writers.
