Podcasting Will Grow Exponentially
byThe message is clear according to a BridgeRatings survey. Podcasting is not a short-term trend; it is a rapidly growing new long-term medium. The survey was based on the responses of 4400 radio listeners in ten major markets.
Podcasting’s growth and more information on the survey are detailed in this story in eMarketer. According to the BridgeRatings survey, by 2010 there will be 62.8 million podcast listeners in the U.S. And, this survey doesn’t count video podcast viewers!
The eMarketer article also points out that many people who download podcasts do so on a regular basis.
The podcasting trend is simply an extension of the media time-shifting/convenience phenomenon that has made TiVo and RSS readers so popular for television and the Web, respectively. Consumers no longer need to schedule their wants and needs around the content providers’ schedules. They are free to view/listen/read their entertainment, news, interests, etc. whenever they want.
