Rminder Calls To Remind You
by
I told myself that I would stop writing about online reminder services having already posted about Beeplet, HassleMe and ReminderFeed, but Rminder takes it to another level. So the temptation to write about it was too strong.
Like the other services, Rminder lets you set up a series of things to be reminded about. Unlike the others, Rminder calls you and actually talks to you instead of a text message. Unfortunately, also unlike the others, Rminder is not entirely free and the privilege of being reminded by phone call could cost up to $9/month if you fall into the ‘Busy’ account (60 reminders a month). If you don’t need to be reminded of much, the free account will remind you up to 8 times a month with a limit of 2 per week. There is no weekly limit with any of the plans that you pay for.
Another feature that sets Rminder apart from other services I’ve checked out, is the ability to import reminders from gMail, iCal, Yahoo, Outlook and in what is becoming a new trend, 37signals Basecamp. There is also an API available for interested developers wanting to build on top of the framework they have put together. I imagine that you could build a service that lets you get a phone call telling you when your blog has been commented on or when your favorite Flickr photographer has posted new photos.
Of course, I rarely answer my phone, which renders Rminder useless for me. For those people who you see at the mall wearing their bluetooth headsets and, apparently, always having the most important conversation of their lives, Rminder would be right up their alley.
