Want Your SUV in Root Beer, Crème Brulee or Merlot?

by

A friend of mine has always said her dream job is to name lipstick colors. Based on the latest automotive trends, developing car colors has become equally tasty.

Consider some of the latest car colors mentioned in a New York Times article:

  • Dark Mocha
  • Cocoa
  • Root Beer
  • Orange Frost
  • White Chocolate
  • Salsa Red
  • Top Banana

The food-and-beverage-based names are appetizing all the major automakers including Ford, GM, Chrysler, Honda and Volkswagen. The objective, of course, is to trigger those senses and sensations associated with our favorite dishes and drinks. From the Times piece:

Chefs have learned a lesson car designers want their bosses to accept: presentation counts. Whether the product is cars or food, it’s not just what you slap onto the plate, but the style and ambiance with which you serve it. Like chefs, auto designers are in the business of selling sizzle as well as steak.

Perhaps a joint naming venture with Starbucks is next. Would you like your Ford Focus in Raspberry Mocha Frappuccino or Caramel Macchiato?
