We All Need A Little Downtime

by

Just got back from a week in the wilds of Utah hunting light and photographic landscape icons with my camera. There are a few photos from the trip here on Flickr. I was offline (= downtime) for about a week, and that felt good until I attempted to catch up on all my RSS subscriptions. Yikes! Why didn’t the world take a time out while I was gone? On a side note, I can’t believe how much richer (and accurate) the colors appear on Flickr with the Safari Browser rather than Firefox.

I take Grace Slick’s “feed your head” lyrics quite literally. Sometimes the Web is a great place to feed your head; sometimes it’s not. The world is far more impressive and instructional in person than it is on Wikipedia. Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are spectacular. For about 20 minutes after sunrise and before sunset the park superintendent must throw a big switch to make all the rocks glow red. It has to make for a big electric bill.

My only disappointment at being gone was missing one of our annual Sundog company outings to Ballards on Lake of The Woods to do some fishing—ice fishing in this case. That tells you how crazy we are in these higher latitudes. About the time spring is right around the corner, we leave Fargo on a bus, and head a couple of hundred miles north to hang on to the last vestiges of winter. I understand a good time was had by all.
