Web2.0: Just Add Alpha/Beta
byIt seems that every day another dozen web2.0 sites arrive in alpha or beta form, Google on it’s own releases one or two ‘beta’ products a month. So how can a person interested in this frenzy of releases keep up with the ten different gift list applications that have been released in the past two weeks without spending all their time surfing the Web? Easy, you just find a few other people that have more time than you do and piggyback on them.
There are two sites I check a few times every day to see what’s new on the 2.0 block. Emily Chang’s eHub provides short, one-sentence blurbs of new sites in a long-list format while TechCrunch often delves deeper into the sites they profile offering longer reviews usually with some screenshots. Both sites also feature the occasional interview with the builders of the sites that are profiled.
The Museum of Modern Betas takes a subtle humorous approach to the glut of sites being released with ‘alpha’ or ‘beta’ in their names by stuffing them all in a museum. While it has gotten to the point of being ridiculous, this still serves as a great starting point to get a peek at where the Web seems to be headed in the near
