Wikis Added to Magazine Web Sites
byA couple of magazine web sites have received social media boosts in recent weeks. MediaDailyNews reported on the new wiki features available at the Forbes and Food & Wine magazine sites.
Forbes has launched a beta version of a corporate organizational chart wiki. It’s a community-generated, drag-and-drop tool that allows users to build and edit org charts from various companies. Users can add management members, expand the charts and create reporting relationships. So far, the likes of Apple, Ford Motor Company, Wal-Mart and Dell are represented. The interface is cumbersome at times but it’s a great collaborative tool.
Food & Wine, meanwhile, is relying on site visitors to build Food & Wine Across America, a nationwide directory of restaurants, wine bars and coffee shops. The publication plans to emphasize local favorites from cities of all sizes. A handful of cities have been nominated for a place of honor on the U.S. map.
And if the wiki concept is still fuzzy, the CommonCraft folks have created Wikis in Plain English, a follow-up to their recent RSS in Plain English video.
