YouTube Is Time Magazine’s Invention Of The Year
by
Almost two months are still left to go in 2006, and Time has already conceded invention-of-the-year honors to YouTube. Considering the dazzling rise of this concept from start-up to one of the most popular sites on the Internet in just 18 months, the honor seems well deserved. YouTube, which recently sold to Google for $1.6 billion, is the ninth busiest site on the Internet (based on Alexa rankings) with a daily reach of over 65 million people.
Most people probably don’t think of YouTube as an invention, but of course it is. You can check out the impressive competition they beat out for honors if you click the Time link above.
Although this video clip on YouTube has been out for a month now, it still captures the essence of the popular site. It features a euphoric Chad Hurley and Steve Chen—the site’s co-founders—announcing their high-priced purchase by Google.
