Mobile Coupons Showing Great ROI

What do you get when you combine the high response rate of mobile coupons with the minimal costs associated with distributing them? Well you get campaigns that generate ROI numbers so high they seem borderline ridiculous. For example, Scotty P’s Hamburgers in Frisco, TX used mobile coupons to bring customers in at lunchtime. The result was a 12 percent response rate, zero opt outs, and a staggering 1,650 percent return on investment. Take a look at these recent mobile coupon campaigns:

IHOP sees 10 percent mobile coupon redemption rate
Consumers are encouraged to opt-in for a free short stack of pancakes, and are added to a special event database to promote various IHOP events including Friday Clown Nite, Halloween, Easter and Christmas.
IKEA mobile campaigns average 5-10 percent response rates
The text-to-enter loyalty program is a means for IKEA to start a dialogue with interested consumers. Offers such as 20 percent off select items are extended to the consumers, and there have been more than 15,000 offer redemptions to date.

As with anything mobile if you want a glimpse of the future, look to Japan. Everything they do, the rest of the world copies 3-5 years later. People were using mobile coupons in Japan were still getting to grips with SMS… How’s this for a stat: McDonald’s Japan mobile site has over 16 million registered users – that’s more than 12 percent of the Japanese population, and its mobile coupon service (two years old) is used by 4.5 million. See this guide to mobile in Japan for more details: http://mobithinking.com/guide-mobile-Web-Japan#McDonald’s
