Spam is Bad for the Environment!

This article reviewing the findings gives some very intriguing statistics regarding the amount of energy saved when a major spam contributor was taken offline, average energy consumption associated with spam emails, and facts regarding energy use by country.

For instance, it amazes me that the United States “had emissions that were 38 times that of Spain” in per-user email energy emissions. This is partly due to the fact that the U.S. has a higher number of Internet users; however that still seems like an incredible statistic that we spend so much more time dealing with e-mail spam.

So, if you’re looking for another simple way to “be green” in today’s energy-conscious world, keep your spam filters up to date, and try not to spam your contact list with unnecessary junk mail.
